IP Services began its early operations as an advanced IP engineering team inside the Fortune 500 integrator, MicroAge. The group was dubbed the Advanced Network Group and was responsible for architectonic and implementing both large enterprise and carrier class routed networks with a strong focus on next generation network core design.
The team then developed various operations strategies including innovative procedures and controls designed to optimize the performance of the technologies they had implemented. They also designed and built a datacenter to consolidate the systems and operations of the networks.
The group secured a multi-million dollar network services contract and was faced with space and staff constraints. Corporate management decided to separate the new group from the integration business and spun off a fully owned subsidiary now called IP Services.
In 2001, The IP Services team designed and built a principal network operations center in the Pacific Northwest. Their vision was to leverage their experience and expertise, and become the premiere High Availability IT Service Management provider for dynamic and growing businesses that need rigorous management of their business-critical systems. Their focus is on managing business-critical IT systems for customers that don’t a hardened datacenter and don’t have the resources to implement the procedures and controls that are proven to prevent system failures.
In 2003, IP Services co-founded the IT Process Institute to identify and study the practices of top performing IT operations centers. Based on the study of over 100 organizations and the identification of 8 top performers, past IP Services Chief Technology Officer Kevin Behr helped write
a book on how to manage datacenters and IT Infrastructure to prevent downtime. This book, called “Visible Ops: Implementing ITIL in 4 Practical and Auditable Steps”, has sold over 80,000 copies, and is becoming the de facto standard on how IT organizations manage business-critical IT systems. Now, the IP Services High Availability IT Service Management solutions are based on the findings of this important research, and are proven to optimize results for their customers.
Starting in 2005 and continuing to the present, IP Services obtains independent auditor certification of procedures and controls in place regarding physical security, environmental security, computer operations, information security, data communications, and disaster recovery planning. This level of audited operations allows IP Services' customers to have confidence in the procedures and controls used to manage their business-critical systems, and can reduce the ongoing audit costs for organizations that must attest to the procedures used by IP Services in order to meet regulatory requirements.
Today, as a result of this evolution of offerings and expertise, IP Services' customers get reliable and predictable business-critical IT systems without the cost of building a hardened datacenter or the cost of developing and implementing IT procedures and controls.
